If you have studied the language before, a written and oral placement test helps us determine where you should continue. This way you don’t have to choose a course based on a level name alone – you get professional help with your decision.

Our qualified teachers take part in professional development on a regular basis, and the academic side of our courses is supported by senior teachers. IH Budapest is also a teacher training centre, and our team includes several CELTA- and DELTA-qualified teachers as well as teachers with university teaching degrees.
What is a language lesson like at IH Budapest?
Language skills become truly useful when you don't just recognise the rules and words, but can actually speak using them.
That's why you're an active participant in IH lessons:
- You talk and practise real communication situations
- You work in pairs and small groups
- You work with real-life texts, audio and video
- You practise new vocabulary and grammar by using them straight away
- You get feedback on what to work on next
- Alongside speaking, you also develop your listening, reading and writing

Level labels help you find your way, but you don't have to decide on your own which group to continue in.

You don't need a placement test – choose a beginner (elementary) group, or apply and we'll help you from there.

Starter
You can already get by in simple situations
You use familiar words and basic phrases, and you can ask and answer simple questions.
A2
PRE-INTERMEDIATE
You can handle more and more everyday situations
You can take part in simple conversations and link your ideas together on familiar topics.
B1
INTERMEDIATE
You can already cope – now it's time to gain confidence
You communicate independently in familiar situations and can talk about your opinions, plans and experiences.

What is an English practice group and why does it cost less?
At IH Budapest, the English practice group is a reduced-fee English course linked to our teacher training. It is not a cheaper version of a standard IH language course: it works with a different teaching model, in which language learning and teaching practice come together.
You learn and practise English, while teachers training with us gain teaching practice with real language learners.
What do you do in the lessons?
- you communicate in English and actively use the language;
- you practise grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and useful expressions;
- you develop your listening, reading and writing;
- you get feedback that helps you improve.
The practice groups are available both online and in person – currently at A2 (Pre-Intermediate) and B2 (Upper-Intermediate) level. We provide the course materials, the written and oral placement test is free of charge, and you can also have a trial lesson.

First you take an online test of about 30 minutes, then we also assess your speaking.
Complete beginners can skip this step.

Based on your level and the course you've chosen, we confirm which group is right for you.
You enrol, pay the course fee and you're ready to start
Once the final course details are confirmed, you can complete your enrolment and payment.

Only if you have studied the language before. As a complete beginner (A0), you can apply straight away. Otherwise, you take a free, 5–10-minute online placement test and then, based on a short, free speaking assessment, we recommend the group that suits you.

Yes. Each course card clearly shows whether the course runs online or in person. Our in-person courses take place in Budapest at 1023 Budapest, Lajos u. 11–15.
The teachers may include both teachers at the start of their careers and teachers with several years’ experience, native and non-native English speakers alike.
Teaching practice plays a key role in IH Budapest’s international teacher training courses. In CELTA teaching practice, for example, participants teach real English learners, while tutors and other participants observe the lessons, followed by professional feedback.
Choose a practice group, if you would like to actively practise and improve your English at A2 or B2 level and you are open to a teaching format linked to teacher training.
Choose a standard IH language course, if you are looking for the standard IH group course format, or if a different level, schedule or course type suits your goals better.
If there is a free place and your level is right, you can join a running group. After you apply, we check whether the group is right for you.
Yes. You can sit in on one session free of charge egy már futó nyelvi csoportba – a nyelvi szintedtől függetlenül.

Our online group courses typically run with 4–10 participants.
Ha szükséges, első lépésként a nyelvi szintfelmérőnk kitöltésével kezded, hogy megtudjuk, milyen nyelvi szinten vagy.
Ezután egyeztetjük Veled a számodra megfelelő csoportot (nyelvi szint, nyelvi célok, a nyelvtanulásra szánt heti óraszám és időbeosztás), valamint a nyelvtanfolyam egyéb részleteit.
Ezt követően történik a beiratkozás valamint a tandíj befizetése. A tandíj befizetésével hivatalosan is IH Budapest tanulóvá válsz, amely automatikusan feljogosít a további tanfolyamokon való kedvezményes részvételre, a nyelvi könyvek kedvezményes megvásárlására, valamint az IH Budapest közösségi tagjává is válsz egyúttal, amely számos érdekes programot tartogat a nyelv iránt érdeklődők számára.
